Since
1882 a coal-fired train has been running the narrow gauge tracks between
Durango and Silverton. For decades it carried ore back to Durango's smelter.
Today the train carries tourists and rail fans from all over the world through
beautiful snow covered aspen forests, along the icy sparkling waters of
the Animas, hugging the rugged granite cliffs until it descends into Cascade
Canyon. The train museum holds a collection of antique trains and memorabilia
that is second to none. Located in the roundhouse, this museum is a must
see for all visitors to Durango. This incredible museum is also available
for parties, weddings and other special functions.
